Our summer holiday came early this year, the unconventional timing determined by the destination. India has been on our wish-list for a long time but unless you have a particular enthusiasm for apocalyptic monsoon rain, then two weeks in August – our usual escape slot – is out of the question.
The trip was another gem organised by tried and trusted adventure tour company Explore, who have yet to disappoint. The North India Explorer involved a very full-on 15-day itinerary starting in the capital Delhi and travelling to Udaipur, Pushkar, Jaipur, Agra, Varanasi and finally ending in Kolkata.
It was a lot to take in; we’ve been back almost a week and my head is still spinning somewhat from the experience. It’s a country like nowhere I’ve been before, throwing up a relentless succession of extreme and unfamiliar images, from the sublime to the downright surreal, with no pause to process…

These are my flowers from my 60th birthday
I am Gwen Richardson and I live in aspatria in Cumbria I work in a care home here in aspatria as a relief cleaner and voluntary worker, I have lived here 17 years and I am 60 going on for 61i like art and photography, my only sister called carole is married and lives in Barrow in Furness Cumbria, I live in a bungalow with my mam it is good living here there is more buses and the train is handy for going to my sisters, we used to live in a village called abbey town which has an old abbey built in 1150, I have never married and my dad died 33 years ago, I am the oldest between me and my sister by 15 months, mam and I came here to live as I had got a job here in a factory making baby cloths and that has now closed down I have been working in the care home for 10 years now when I left school I went to work in a factory in silloth which is a seaside town there we made toilet bags for shops but that closed down but I had been there for 10 years in that factory, I have worked at a holiday camp which was also in silloth as a cleaner and I did that for 2 years,
when i do things i have to have it done right there and then i never give up until i got it done never give in to any thing.
